New Burt’s Bees Films Discuss Colony Collapse Disorder

Guest Post by Jessica Marati

Most people don’t realize it, but honey bees are a crucial piece of the delicate jigsaw puzzle that keeps the Earth’s ecosystems in balance. However, since 2006, entire colonies of honey bees have experienced mysterious rates of decline — a natural phenomenon known as Colony Collapse Disorder, or CCD. Scientists haven’t yet put a finger on the causes of CCD, but many suspect environmental challenges like pollution, chemical exposure, disease, parasites, poor nutrition, and climate change.

To bring attention to this issue, Burt’s Bees (whose products are honey-based) teamed up with actress and filmmaker Isabella Rossellini on a series of short films called “Burt Talks To The Bees.” Somewhat wacky but wildly educational, the films depict Rossellini in multiple roles as she describes the plight of the bees and what people can do to get involved and spread the word.
